Welcome to the official site of the MapúaWorld 2011. MapúaWorld is a biennial gathering of Mapúa alumni around the world. COME AND EXPLORE CALGARY ________________________________________ Summer in Calgary is relatively short, hot, and dry. Nevertheless, this does not inhibit most Calgarians from thinking that summer in this city is almost like Hawaii’s with the exceptions that there are not many sandy beaches in here and absolutely no palm trees nor coconut groves around. But what is Hawaii without sandy beaches and palm trees? However, what we lack in Hawaii’s main attractions has been compensated by our abundance in lakes, rivers, parks, and forests. People from all walks of life use these beautifully maintained facilities for strolling, camping, fishing, boating, hiking, picnicking, and communing with Nature. The picture of Calgary during summer resembles that of any typical Canadian city: scorching sun, wide blue sky, swimming pools, golf courses, tennis courts, bikes, parks, summer festivals, campsites, lazy afternoons, cold beers, etc. But there is something different and unique about Calgary’s summer which makes it more exciting than any Canadian cities. It’s the world famous Calgary Stampede. The Stampede is a week-long celebration of the inglorious Wild West where Calgarians and their guests, while dressed in colourful western outfit, jubilate and dance in the streets. After a hard day’s work or when tired of the noise, bustle, and heat of the city, one can always take a refuge in the nearby mountains. Snow-capped and magnificently mounted against a natural backdrop of blue and white sky, these mountains are Nature’s showcase of grandeur and beauty. Banff National Park – a mere one-hour drive from the city with its century-old trees and placid silvery lakes -offers an atmosphere of peace and quiet to the weary soul. Its natural landscape is breathtaking and the delicate scent of its pines and wild roses is simply rejuvenating. ________________________________________ Mapua World 2011 Calgary, Alberta, Canada June 30 to July 3, 2011 Viva Mapúa
